REIKIi (pronounced Ray-Key) is a system of Enlightenment and a Hands on Healing art developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan. It is an art that is passed from Master to student by teaching and attunement. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, meaning Universal Life Force Energy. The term "Reiki" is used to describe both the energy and the Usui system of using it. The original system by Usui was called Usui Reiki Ryoho.
This is one of the few healing modalities which does not use the practitioner’s own energy for healing. It is a form of healing that conducts energy from the giver to the receiver to transmit the energy of life. Since Reiki uses the Universal Life Energy, (**Ki or chi or Prana) which surrounds and is part of all living things, the practitioner can use it on himself or herself. It is the God-consciousness called Rei that guides the life force called Ki in the practice we call Reiki. Therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy. This is a meaningful interpretation of the word Reiki. It more closely describes the experience most people have of it; Reiki guiding itself with its own wisdom, and being unresponsive to the direction of the practitioner.
It is usually given as a hands on healing, however if that is not possible it can be sent (by intention) as a distance healing. A suragate is sometimes offered. It is what Jesus taught to his disciples
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. We are a mind-body-spirit unity.
**Universal Energy - Ki (Japanese) Chi (Chinese) Prana (Hindu) Ki - Japanese for “breath” or “wind,” this term is used to refer to the vital force, or life energy, in all things. Like the Hindu “Prana,” this energy is part of the underlying connection between humans, animals, plants, crystals, etc. It is the healing energy used by Reiki practitioners and other energy healers.

LOTUS:The holiest of flowers for Hindus, the beautiful lotus is symbolic of the true soul of an individual. It represents the being, which lives in turbid waters yet rises up and blossoms to the point of enlightenment. Mythological speaking, lotus is also a symbol of creation, since Brahma, the creator came forth from the lotus that blooms from the navel of Vishnu.
